Frequently Asked Questions
How can speech and language therapy help my child?
If you are concerned that your child is not talking yet or their understanding, talking or speech doesn't seem to be the same at the same level as other children their age, speech and language therapy can help. Assessment can identify what your child is doing well and what they might need extra help with. Therapy focuses on showing you as a parent how best to support your child develop their communication skills. Much of this will be showing you how you can develop language through play and during your normal, everyday activities.
How many sessions will my child need?
This depends on your child and we will discuss this together after your child's assessment. We will evaluate your child's progress as we go and decide if they need further sessions or if they are ready for therapy to end.
Every child is different - there are many different communication difficulties and factors that can effect how a child will progress. Some children will make quick progress and others may need more ongoing, long term support.
What areas do you cover?
I am based in Chalfont St Peter and can travel around the local area and surrounding towns. Get in touch to see if I can visit your area. If you live further away, teletherapy (assessment and therapy over video call) could be an option.
Why choose an independent Speech and Language Therapist?
Independent Speech and Language Therapists have the same training as NHS Speech and Language Therapists. The main difference is that you can get support right away and have more flexibility and say over when your child's sessions are held with an independent Speech and Language Therapist.
