Speech and Language Assessment and Therapy

Assessment

Before starting any therapy sessions, it is key to carry out an assessment of your child’s speech, language and communication skills to find out what they might be struggling with and where I can help.

Assessment sessions typically last 60 - 90 minutes and involve:

  • Talking to you about what it is that you are worried about with your child's communication.  We will go through your concerns and I will ask you questions to find out about your child’s development and family history. 

  • Observing your child in play, carrying out assessment of their communication skills through play and looking at pictures and objects (depending on your child's age).

  • Debrief – I will talk to you about the results of your child's assessment, share top tips to help your child straight away and we can decide together if therapy would be a good idea for your child at this time.  

  • If the assessment is done at home, with your permission I will contact your child's nursery/school to find out how they are communicating there.  

  • Following this, you will receive a full report of your child's communication strengths and needs and some top tips and strategies to help them.

Assessments can take place at your home, over video call (Zoom) or at your child's nursery/school if possible.

​

An initial assessment and full report costs £175.​

Speech-Therapist

Therapy

  • After your first assessment session, if you would like to go ahead with therapy sessions, we can book these in. 

  • Therapy sessions will usually be once a week or once a fortnight.

  • Sessions typically last 30-60 minutes (depending on your child's age and attention span).

  • I will always spend some of your child’s therapy session discussing with you how they are getting on and sharing advice and strategies.

  • Sessions are play based (tailored for your child's age) and aim to target your child’s area of difficulty through fun and motivating activities.

Therapy sessions can take place at your home, over video call (Zoom) or at your child's nursery/school if possible.

​

Therapy sessions cost £80 for an hour session.
